To record a lunchtime concert, for example an organ recital in a Cathedral, presents the usual challenge of microphone placement but with the added element of a live audience.  For this reason we tend to record lunchtime concerts with a smaller recording rig and fewer microphones than we would normally use, unless there is justification or requirement for our full 24 channel rig to be used.

However, that said, we never compromise on the quality of our recordings and will always carry out a site survey to determine the optimum number of microphones required given factors such as the instrument being recorded, the size of the venue and the intended purpose for the recording.  For small venues we will often use a 2 or 4 channel setup which if arranged carefully will give a surprisingly good result.  For something like a church or Cathedral more microphones (channels) may be needed, but this is something which will be assessed on an individual basis.

Regardless of the setup used, our company philosophy is based around high quality recordings so that will always be at the forefront of any discussion.   We are often asked to record lunchtime concerts on behalf of the performers for their own personal use.  We are always more than happy to do this but it is imperative that the performers seek permission from the venue in advance and, where possible, arrange for us to view the venue in advance of the proposed recording date. Such recordings are not usually offered for commercial release.

We can record lunchtime concerts at venues throughout the UK. Please contact us for more details.
