Mixing
The majority of our recordings are mixed at the time of the recording particularly where we are recording a single instrument such as an organ. However, some situations will require separation of the various elements that make up the performance. This is quite common when recording a jazz trio of piano, bass and drums for example. Whilst this is a more complex solution it does give us more flexibility to produce a balanced result.
Mixing follows the editing process once the final cut has been achieved. At this point we are mixing the music as well as the acoustic space. This is another reason why we always use multiple microphones for our recordings as it gives us greater flexibility at the mixing stage.
