Last weekend 4 Part Music were in London to record Mike King and his fabulous gospel choir The Mike King Collective. The Mike King Collective (MKC) is one of the UK’s premier contemporary vocal groups combining soulful vocals, rich jazz harmonies and captivating performances.
This was our second recording with Michael King. The first, was last year when we recorded Dartford Township Choir under his direction. As before the setup was choir with Piano accompaniment plus a few solos.
The purpose of the recording was to record some tracks which could be used on the choir website with a view to perhaps incorporating them into an album at a later stage. The session started with a solo singer – in fact the vicar of the church we were recording in, plus backing from MKC and accompaniment from Mike on the Piano.
Over the course of the day we recorded 4 songs with MKC one of which involved over dubbing a soloist at the end. Between songs we set up a few pairs of headphones in the ‘engineering’ room for members of the choir to have a listen to the recorded tracks.
The tracks were then mastered back in our studio to reflect the tracks previously recorded by MKC in a fixed studio and mastered Stereo .wav files were issued to the customer electronically and on CD.
