4 Part Music helped Churchdown School Academy Music Department produce a Virtual Christmas Video
Every year, Churchdown School Academy put on a Christmas Concert in Gloucester Cathedral, led by their current Head of Music, Anne-Marie Humphries. In 2020, Covid-19 changed all that and, like so many things nowadays, the Christmas concert had to move online.
Instead of performing a showcase Christmas Concert in Gloucester Cathedral, Churchdown School Music Department decided to take the event online. The intention was to involve as many pupils as possible in a video which featured songs from each house as well as the sixth form and other groups. Each pupil either individually, or in groups, would record their Christmas carol or song and then it would be combined into a video which could be published on the Churchdown School Music You Tube Channel.
Putting together the video
Once all the pupils videos had been received by the school, we worked closely with their Head of Music to compile the final production. The end product was in fact a series of videos for each of the different songs and groups which took part.
The first section of the video was a song from each of the four houses. This was then followed by the school choir performing Holst’s ‘In the Bleak Mid Winter’. As this particular song was just an audio recording, we put in some photographs to represent the carol whilst the pupils sang. Next up was a group of sixth form students performing O Holy Night which included 2 singers, keyboard and guitar. The audio for this was captured on Anne-Marie’s iPhone so we aren’t going to win any awards for audio production. But nevertheless it has come out well and by adding some festive backdrops to the videos we hope this captures the spirit of Christmas.
The video then concludes with a duet of ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas’ between the Music department staff which was again all recorded remotely.
Here is the final result which is also available on the Churchdown School Music Department You Tube Channel.
